Interview

Could you present yourself? I am 56, studied economics and like art and sports in general

In which field do you usually work? I have dedicated more than 20 years to Industrial Marketing in a company producing machinery for FMCG's (Fast Moving Consumer Good)

What is your role in the company? Which are the company's goals? Currently my primary role is as consultant for the Sales organization, helping customers identifying their real needs, ensuring a good and complete definition of customer requirements and helping the organization in defining the adequate technical solutions. The company goal is designing and manufacturing packaging equipment and solutions that will optimize Overall Efficiencies while ensuring customers meet the stringent demands of most countries for sustainable packaging

We are going to talk about knowledge management in your company. Have you ever heard about it? Knowledge is key for any company and so it is for a company that operates globally, with customers in many different industries: Food, Personal care, Home care, Chemical, Pharma, Pet food, producing packaging machinery that must be operative 24/7 An effective management of knowledge provides valuable competitive advantages

Which is the most important knowledge for your company? Is this a strategic asset for your company to differenciate it from the competitors? Having a good understanding of customer product characteristics and process in order to define the right packaging equipment that will enable keeping the expected line/plant efficiencies. This product knowledge and experience is key to gaining the trust of our customers and a clear differentiator from other competitors.

Is there some knowledge that is required for your position? How does the company replace you when you are absent? A deep knowledge of our equipment and technical solutions already in place, the knowledge of alternative equipment and competitors capabilities is key to provide a good advise to customers and properly define the projects. On my absence application engineering is the team that supports directly the sales force and customers

Knowledge management system: Who is responsible of knowledge management in your company? The CFO is the responsible to coordinate and ensure proper knowledge management, led by IT and supported by each manager

Depending on the data, some is stored in "public folders" available for the workers, and other is available from the intranet Group Portal

Knowledge sharing is first based on the transfer process that we've already talked about. But then it also includes the interpretative process. So, how do you know that people interpret the knowledge that you've transferred to them? When necessary we utilize "quizzes" to evaluate if the information was properly understood

Are there any routines the company follows to manage knowledge? Yes. Routines defined in the CRM and CPQ related to prospects, customers, opportunities, competitors, and routines defined to automatically pull out information about the business activity

Nowadays companies are concerned about how they can protect their data. How do you protect the existing knowledge in your company? (Cyber security) What is the process for achieving the knowledge you desire? Do you hire someone specialized or do you look for knowledge by yourself? Anything related to cyber security is handled directly by the Group Headquarters the company belongs to.
